  • Review for ‘Kara the Kākāpō’

"This fun rhyming picture book about a determined wee bird is delightful. The yellow text pops against the muted backgrounds of the night sky and the New Zealand native bush. But far from dull are these illustrations. Beautiful colours almost glow from the page with layers of shapes, shadow, flora and fauna..."

  • Review for ‘Kara the Kākāpō’

"You cannot resist picking up a book with a cover as stunning and vibrant as this. The illustrations inside certainly did not disappoint, either. In fact, each illustration was like an artwork in itself that could be framed and displayed... What a sensational debut book! I look forward to more from this collaboration."

  • Review for ‘Harry the Hermit Crab’

Illustrator Evan Heasman's artwork is unique, jumping off the page in a riot of colour. Bright and bold, they are intricate and offer up lots of space for discussion and questions.

Rae includes some interesting facts about strawberry hermit crabs at the end of the book, encouraging readers to learn more and take action. Harry the Hermit Crab is a great book to introduce younger readers to the topic of conservation and the importance of caring for our environment.

  • Review for ‘Harry the Hermit Crab’

There is so much to love about this book, the text cleverly teaches a lot about crabs and about their environment. It is full of enriched vocabulary, with verbs like strewn, scuttled and scampered and it has a delightful rhyming pattern. Some interesting or important words are enlarged and capitalised adding character to the text. The illustrations are equally appealing with Harry the standout star on every page. This is a fun story that tells an unfortunate truth of pollution on our beaches which is saved in the end by kind-hearted conservation conscious people.
